IRAN MISSILE--Khorramshahr MRBM: Range 630 mi.--Vector SE--COMPONENT ORIGIN: DPRK SCUD VARIANT

TO RODRIGUEZ, COL. EJERCITO REBELDE
FROM RENALDO
SUBJ  AFTER ACTION REPORT

(SANTA ROSA DE LIMA)--Following scant details that seem more politically motivated to rattle the new American administration into some sort of condemnation or action. It's nothing new that Iran has the capability to launch SCUD variants for some distance, still falling quite short of any meaningful targets if launched from its far east Semnan complex--

AL JAZEERA--

Addressing reporters alongside his visiting French counterpart, Jean-Marc Ayrault, Zarif said: "The missile issue is not part of the nuclear deal."
Reiterating Iran's traditional stance, Zarif said that his country's missiles are "not designed for the capability of carrying a nuclear warhead".
Iran is only using ballistic missiles to defend itself, he added.

TEHRAN TIMES--

Iran had secretly tested a new ballistic missile on Sunday at a launch site outside Semnan, about 140 miles east of Tehran.
The Khorramshahr medium-range ballistic missile flew 600 miles before exploding, in a failed test of a reentry vehicle, officials had further said.
Iranian officials has not reacted to the news so far.

ANALYSIS--

Rather dubious since any test from the known launch pad would be anything but ""secret". The movement of any hardware to the launch pad would be immediately visible from space based spy satellites, keenly aware of activity at Semnan.
In addition, there appears little information as to the trajectory or vector of the launch, which would presumably have been over Iranian airspace, at 600+ miles toward the southeast.

Will continue to relay important information to the Defense Ministry as to the nature, results and future developments of the quasi-SCUD capability of the Iranian missile testing project.
